Once all items are accepted, a catalog may be prepared and made available to interested persons. Many collectors throughout the world subscribe to auction catalogs. This allows them to monitor price trends and developments, as well as to determine whether to bid on any specific item. While there is a charge for catalog subscriptions, participation in auctions themselves are generally free. Tickets sometimes are required, but usually are free. It has also become quite common for auction houses to post online catalogs and post-sale prices.

Online auctions may follow different procedures with regard to withdrawal. You should, therefore, determine the site’s policy with respect to this issue. PRICE GUARANTEES Some auction houses will guarantee a certain sale price. If the sale price exceeds the guaranteed amount, the auction house charges, in addition to its usual commission, a percentage of the amount by which the sale price exceeds the guaranteed price. If bidding does not reach the guaranteed price, the auction house pays the consignor the difference between the sale price and the guaranteed price.
