We all look for our niche of special competence. Why should we even worry about the number of neurosurgeons? Why not let the market place determine our needs? There are two prime reasons given for trying to peg the number of neurosurgeons at a reasonable point. The first is that training a neurosurgeon is expensive. Training too many of them is a waste of scarce societal resources at a time when all nations are concerned about the cost of providing health care. The second concern is that if we are overpopulated with neurosurgeons, then the neurosurgeons will not be busy, their surgical skills will rust, and their competence will dwindle.

Within their service time air forces will be using space-based reconnaissance systems, new information systems, stealthy carriers and intelligent weapons.
