Den Terminus „Okkasionalität“ gebraucht man für die Bezeichnung der Existenz des äußeren Anlasses, der zur Entstehung der dichterischen Schöpfung führt. Vgl. v. Folglich ist ein Epigramm okkasionalen Charakters dasjenige, das diesen konkreten äußeren Anlaß thematisiert, unabhängig davon, ob es einen materiellen Gegenstand gibt (Aufschrift) oder nicht (Skolion). 35 zum epigramm als literarischer gattung 21 sein kann. Das Epigramm archaischer und klassischer Zeit funktioniert, wie oben geschildert wurde, innerhalb dreier Kontexte – innerhalb des historisch-sozialen, des literarischen und des architektonischen – wobei der historische Aspekt (Gelegenheit, Okkasionalität) nicht den einzigen Spielraum für die Entwicklung der Fiktion darstellt.
