Das heißt, er läßt seine Verse mit Wörtern beginnen, deren Anfangsbuchstaben nicht nur mit den jeweils nachfolgenden Buchstaben das entsprechende Wort bilden, sondern zugleich eine sinnvolle Äußerung ergeben, wenn man sie senkrecht von oben nach unten liest.
In den vv. 62 Dadurch erstreckt sich der Spannungsbogen über den jeweiligen Vers hinaus bis zum Beginn des folgenden und verleiht dessen Anfangswort ein besonderes Gewicht. In v. wird φρονε! durch den syntaktischen Einschnitt vom Rest des Verses getrennt, und νω ε ! in der anschließenden Zeile wird durch das folgende γ ρ hervorgehoben. Die Verse sind also formal so aufgebaut, daß die Wörter, deren Anfangsbuchstaben das Akrostichon bilden, dem Leser besonders ins Ohr fallen. Diese Beobachtung spiegelt sich auch in der inhaltlichen Gestaltung der Erzählung wider.
