Seemed like a good idea to about twenty of the boys. They were in Custer in a flash, spent the night, and the next day were out and about checking the terrain. They checked out the place where the Chief Crazy Horse Memorial was just starting to be carved. In 1977, the memorial was only a hole in the mountain, and not much more. They met up with the guy doing the carving, made the right arrangements, and the following morning he took the mob on a private tour. From the highway looking up, the monument didn’t really look all that big.
