Other analysts, however, hold that the current trend toward seeking out and interpreting the transference distorts the listening process and creates an artificial, intrinsically induced emphasis on transference material. As of today, this debate goes on in many quarters and has not been resolved. Each analyst’s view of this issue will dictate his or her way of dealing with the opening phase.
