The calibration is almost logarithmic, using an established molecular weight polystyrene, but it does not go below a molecular weight of 10,000. It is not possible to extrapolate these data because the material does not behave in a simple way on the gel. The gel used for analyses (Bio-Glass 1500) was excellent for rubber which has a molecular weight distribution of around 500,000 to 2,000,000. The molecular weight of the Hevea is determined by the clones and differs with different clones. The genetic means to determine the molecular weight in a particular clone is something which has yet to be deciphered.
PHOTOREACTION CENTER CHLOROPHYLL In 1956, Commoner and coworkers (1956, 1957) discovered that free radicals are produced during light conversion to photosynthesis and that these can be detected by electron spin resonance spectroscopy (esr) on intact photosynthetic organisms or chloroplast preparations irradiated with light. 0025 indicative of a "free" electron, a peak-to-peak line width of ~ 7 . 5 gauss (green plants) or ~ 9 . 5 gauss (photosynthetic bacteria). Much subsequent research by many workers (summarized by Warden and Bolton, 1974) has established that this free radical signal originates in a chlorophyll 7r-cation, which is formed in the primary light conversion act by ejection of an electron.

Euphorbiaeceae steroids as determined by gas-liquid chromatography. The oil from the latex-producing plants is extracted essentially by a mixture of benzene and acetone, and most of the plants studied contain between 2 % and 10% of the total fresh weight of the plant as hydrocarbon. Therefore, if one can get a yield of 50 tons/acre/ year, this would result in 1 ton hydrocarbon/acre/year at 2 % yield (or 5 tons hydrocarbon/ acre/year at 10% yield).
